A New Map of the WHOLE WORLD with the Trade Winds... An important map prepared by Herman Moll, which incorporates the conclusions of William Dampier on the nature of trade winds. Dampier published his findings in the late seventeenth century and Moll was the cartographer who prepared Dampier's charts.

California is depicted as a seperate island, following an erroneous Spanish belief of the sixteenth and seventeenth century where it was inconsistently referred at various times as an island or as a peninsula.

205 x 270 mm. Plateline.

Copperplate engraving.

Later expert hand colour.

Crisp condition.
