This is the preliminary report to the Queensland parliement prepared by the Commissioner of Fisheries, William Saville-Kent together with another paper, "Report relating to the Brisbane Fish Supply, &c.," The importance of this preliminary paper is due to the sixty five fish being identified, illustrated and briefly described for the first time. The illustrations are on sixteen folio sheets with the initial artwork by William Saville-Kent. Saville-Kent became the first authority on the Australian Great Barrier Reef.
