A late eighteenth century English cased compass made by HART, Birmingham. Undated but c.1780.

Engraved silvered dial and with a centre engraved device HART  Fecit  Birm.m.

The original transit lock is in place and working.

Case is hinged solid mahogany in generally good condition with hook catches.

163  mm x 165 mm.

A good example of a substantial eighteenth century portable travellers compass in very good condition.
