The Rev. Francis Russell Nixon's narrative of a visit by the schooner BEACON to the islands of Bass Strait.  An important journey for the colonial government and the church as well as an entertaining historical account of life on these remote islands. Traversing life for the islands' lighthouse keepers, aboriginal communities, encounters with whalers, the wrecks of WATERWITCH and CATARAQUI and the inherent dangers the islands represented to sailors and the island's inhabitants.

Good condition with some wear to the spine. Interior clean and undamaged. Original bright blue cloth binding with gilt front and spine titles, original yellow end papers with the stamp of the Sydney bookseller Tyrrell's.
