Circular southern polar projection with the continents of Africa, Australia and South America accurately defined. Australia defined by the Dutch cartographers including the voyage of Abel Tasman.
The map was produced by Alain Manesson Mallet, 1630 - 1706. It was published in Description de L'Universe, 1683. Mallet was a French military engineer during the reign of Louis XIV before becoming a teacher of mathmatics at the French court.
