A miniature stipple engraving of Admiral James Gambier, First Lord Gambier. Royal Navy, (1756-1833) after becoming First Naval Lord in 1795. Gambier was one of the eminent British Admirals of the Napoleonic Wars. Not without his critics, he succeeded in defending accusations of idleness and became in later life, the Governor of Newfoundland.

The original presentation in a miniature Regency jappanned papiermache frame.
