Henry van Raalte (1881-1929), was born in the UK and exhibited in the Royal Academy in 1901. He went to Western Australia in 1910 and founded an art school in Perth. He later took up the position of Art Curator for the Art Gallery of South Australia and died in 1929.

Certainly amongst the best of printmakers active in Australia.

"The Far Shore" combines van Raalte's two premier subject matters; gum trees and water views.
