Handmade traditional tribal necklace with 75 natural cowrie shells sewn in three layers to a black, handmade,  macrame collar.  Most likely Papua New Guinea or Fiji.  Once considered the most successful form of currency in many parts of the world including West Africa, the cowrie has long been used as a healing, fertility and good luck charm throughout the Middle East, Mediteranean and South Pacific.  Condition is excellent. 20th century.  Clasp opening 60cm.  Neck opening 120cm. Width of shell collar 70cm.  Weight approx 250gms.
