.View looking south from Battery Point along Sandy Bay to Mount Nelson. Mulgrave Battery was put in place in 1818 on the southern side of the point as part of Hobart’s coastal defenses.
Joseph Lycett,(1774-1828,) was a convicted forger and drunkard who was transported to Sydney and continued to forge. Obviously a gifted artist, he gained his freedom and returned to England in 1822. There is no record of him ever being in Tasmania.
